Sharon (Shari) June (Folkestad) Black of Minnetonka, MN, passed away on May 30th, 2023 at the age of 74, after many years of battling breast cancer and, finally, ovarian cancer.
She was born on August 7th, 1948 in Montevideo, Minnesota, where she grew up the oldest of 6 children.
Sharon graduated Cum Laude from Moorhead State University in June of 1970, with a degree in Education as a Music Specialist. She went on to earn her Master's of Education from the University of Minnesota on July 21st of 1987.
She worked as a travelling music teacher, then as a classroom music teacher in the St. Louis Park school
district for 36 years, retiring in June of 2006.
Sharon married Robert James Black of Montevideo, MN on July 11th, 1971.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Jane Folkestad, her mother, Doris (Ostlie) Folkestad, and her father, Stanley Folkestad.
Sharon is survived by her husband Robert; daughter Jennifer (Jonathan Zoss); sons James (Jade) Black, and Andrew Black; grandchildren Finn, Everett, Clement, and Nigel Black, Oliver, Nora, and Anabel Zoss; sisters LuAnn (Mike) Gesell, Gwen (Mike) Grunke, and Susan (Gary) Heikes; brother Duane (Colleen)
Folkestad, and many nieces and nephews.
