Ross Edward Benjamin of Pine City, MN passed away on Sunday, October 16 after a long battle with cancer. He was 86 and died at home surrounded by family. Ross was born in St. Louis, MO on July 14,1937, and proudly stated that all of France celebrated his birth each year.
Ross was preceded in death by his parents, Durand and Gwen, and his brothers, Durand and Bruce.
He is survived by his children, Chanda, Nathan, and Matthew (Shannon); grandchildren, Cassidy, Ayla, Nina, Nick, Chanson, and Aidan; great-grandchildren, Sage, River, and Huntley; and former wives, Karen and Beverly.
Ross lived a full and adventurous life. He proudly attended the Western Military Academy in Illinois and graduated from Central Methodist College in Missouri. His professional life centered around the beverage industry and took him around the country and the world. From his earliest years, he developed lifelong friendships that would bring him joy and many, many stories up until his last days.
He found his way to Florida in the late 60’s and from that point forward, wherever he lived, he always called Florida home. He loved basking in the sunshine, boating, fishing, golfing, partaking in the occasional drum circle, and being the consummate tour guide and host to friends and family. Florida truly agreed with Ross. He was actively involved in the Venice Newcomers Club, became a local trivia leader, and was a frequent and feisty contributor to Venice Gondolier’s Letters to the Editor. Ross was never one to miss a meal, and loved to dabble in the kitchen.
Above all else, Ross loved his friends and family. Ross loved large, and we loved him. He was a huge presence in our lives and will forever be missed.
The family would like to thank St. Croix Hospice of Minnesota for their incredible care, support, and heartfelt compassion shown to Ross in his final days and hours. Ross’ favorite charity was All Faiths Food Bank, if you would like to support his cause.
Lastly, we ask that you put on Frank Sinatra - "My Way", pour some Merlot and raise a glass to see Ross off on his final journey.
