Roger Herbert Buck, aged 80, of Owatonna, MN, passed away peacefully at his home on February 16, 2025. Born on August 7, 1944 in Rochester, MN to Raymond and Esther (Prigge) Buck. He spent his childhood in Pine Island, MN, before settling in Owatonna in 1998 after living in Kenyon, MN, for many years.
Roger’s career spanned several decades and varied roles. He worked as a mechanic for Peterson Ford and Held Chevrolet and also custom combined while living in Kenyon. After moving to Owatonna, he was employed by Viracon until his retirement. He continued to work during his retirement for the Owatonna School District and most recently for the Owatonna Bus Company.
Roger was known for his outgoing nature and ability to strike up conversations with anyone he met. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, snowmobiling, taking casino trips, watching football, and following his grandchildren in all their activities over the years.
Roger leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Ardell (Groth) Buck whom he married on October 19, 1962, at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota, MN. He is also survived by his sons, Tony Buck of Kenyon and Troy (Wendy) Buck of Owatonna. He was a proud grandfather to Alissa Hester, Collin (McKenzie) Buck, Madison (Cody) Gjemse, Ariana Buck and Evan Buck, and great-grandfather to Landon, Jody, Braeden, Hudson, Waylon, and Layla. He is also survived by his sisters, Marilyn Schumacher of Zumbrota and Carol Floen of Rochester; brother, Jerry Buck of Lake City; and his faithful dog, Benji.
Roger was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Robin Buck; parents, Raymond and Esther Buck; siblings, Dorothy Buck, Harvey Buck, Beverly Haugen, Duane Buck; and his in-laws; Clarence and Vinnie Groth.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Elks Lodge, 126 E Vine St, Owatonna, MN on March 1, 2025, from 1 pm to 4 pm, where friends and family are invited to share memories of Roger.
