Roger David Bandell

Roger David Bandell of Crystal, Minnesota passed away on July 31st, 2026, at the age of 81.

Roger was born on October 1st, 1944 in Black River Falls, Wisconsin and was raised by his loving parents, Beatrice and Forrest. He grew up alongside his six siblings- five brothers and one sister- with Rog being the youngest.

At the age of 18, Roger made the courageous decision to join the United States Army. He proudly fulfilled his military service and went on to dedicate an additional 26 years to the Army Reserves. Roger loved his country deeply and took great pride in serving and protecting it. His years in the Army taught him not only the importance of courage, dedication, and service, but also the values that would shape him as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and the beloved man he was to his family. Roger carried that same strength, loyalty, and devotion into every part of his life, always striving to care for and protect those he loved most.

Roger met his wife Pat in 1972 after being introduced by Pat’s best friend, Sandie. After some time, Rog knew that Pat was the one- and they got married in 1973. While being with Pat, he got to be a part of the lives of her three boys: Mike, Todd, and Chad. Before her boys knew it, Rog would become a devoted role model, mentor, and father figure in their lives.

Rog played an immeasurable role in Pat’s life and in the lives of her three boys. He was always there when they needed him—whether they needed a shoulder to lean on, a listening ear, or simply someone to share a good laugh with. Through every season of life, Roger stood by their side, offering his unwavering love, support, and encouragement.

The boys grew up with a deep love for sports, and Rog was their biggest fan. He could always be found in the stands, cheering them on, celebrating their accomplishments, and taking pride in watching them grow and thrive. He loved those boys with all his heart and always considered them his own. Roger would have done absolutely anything for his boys and his beloved wife, Pat. His family was his greatest joy, and the love and devotion he gave them will remain a lasting part of their lives.

As the years went by, Roger’s family continued to grow, bringing him even more joy. His oldest son, Mike, blessed him with three grandchildren: David, Sami, and Taylor. Todd followed with four children of his own: Ben, Nikki, Natalie, and Eliza. His youngest son, Chad, welcomed his son, Jake, giving Rog and Pat eight grandchildren to love and cherish. Not only was Rog a great father, but he was also a wonderful grandpa too.

Roger cared deeply for each and every one of his grandchildren and created countless fun and cherished memories with them over the years. Rog and Pat’s home was always a special place for the grandkids, a place where they could come to be spoiled, have fun, laugh, and make memories with Grandpa and Grandma.

The grandchildren grew older, and Roger’s heart only grew fuller, especially as his family continued to expand. He was blessed with eleven great-grandchildren, whom he loved and adored with all his heart. Watching his family grow was one of Roger’s greatest joys, and he treasured every moment he had with them.

Roger’s door was always open, his arms were always ready for a hug, and his heart was always open to anyone who needed him. No matter what life brought their way, Roger was there for his family—with unconditional love, unwavering support, and a kindness that will never be forgotten. Especially throughout 53 years of marriage with his wife Pat, she was madly in love with Rog and she knew that he was her other half. Rog made her family whole again, and he was the best husband she could ever have.

Rog’s life was filled with love, laughter, excitement, and joy. He was never afraid to have fun and make the best out of life. He was our gentle giant who never let you down, we are so proud and honored that he was a part of our family. We will never forget how much of an impact he left on us. We love you Rog, thank you for everything that you’ve done.
