Robert Henry Lubbers of Eagan, Minnesota, (formerly White Pine, Michigan) passed away peacefully in his sleep June 27, 2023, at the age of 88. He was born on a rural farm in Burke, South Dakota on March 4, 1935, to Henry and Emma (Krussel) Lubbers and was one of seven children.
After graduating high school in 1954, he enlisted in the Army and served two years in Germany. Upon return he attended the Colorado School of Mines for engineering and spent years traveling. Bob loved drawing and worked for different companies using his artistic abilities. He settled in Minneapolis in the early 1960’s and became a commercial artist for Rap in Wax, where he met his wife, Elsie.
They were married December 29, 1965, and moved from Minneapolis to Henderson in 1976, as it was a good place to raise boys with plenty of room to run. He transitioned from commercial art to being a self-taught draftsman where he remained until retirement from Hutchinson Technology where he designed machinery to build computer component parts.
After retirement they moved to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Elsie’s hometown of Watersmeet. He enjoyed fishing, camping, making maple syrup, snowmobiling, gardening, spending time with the grandkids, watching Gunsmoke and taught himself to play harmonica which he performed in the church. One of his greatest joys was designing and overseeing the Armed Forces memorial at the White Pine American Legion #462. He kept himself busy with various local organizations.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Emma (Krussel) Lubbers; son, John; brothers, Bill, Ed, Dennis; sister, Patricia; brothers-in-law, Louie, Darl; nephew, Darl Jr.
