Robert Joseph Cleary Jr.

Robert Joseph (Bob/Butch) Cleary Jr., age 79, of Bloomington, MN, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Robert Cleary Sr.; grandparents; two nephews, Jeffrey and James Leibel; several aunts and uncles; and his special fur friend, Bubbles. Butch is survived by seven siblings: MaryKay Leibel (Dave), Elizabeth Cleary, Patti Stetler (Hugh), Barb Peltier (Chris), Eileen Cleary, Mike Cleary, and Maureen Reinholdson (Mark); many nieces, nephews, and other relatives; his long-time friend Sharon Layeux; and three goddaughters: Jean Frye, Morgan Reinholdson, and Michelle Sieckert.

Butch proudly served in the Marine Reserves. He was an avid reader who enjoyed jazz music and loved spending time with family and friends. Butch was inviting, easygoing, and enjoyed meeting new people. He was always up for a good political conversation.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Bloomington, MN, at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 15. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the church service. Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Mendota Heights, MN. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Special Olympics, the American Lung Association, or a charity of the donor's choice.
