Richard Louis Steblay

Richard Louis Steblay, 63, passed away on October 16th in Edina, MN. Born on September 21, 1960 in Minneapolis to Joseph and Mabel Steblay. His legacy of hard work, friendship, and tenacity will be cherished by family and friends.

Rick was many things, including decorated athlete, accomplished woodworker, avid fisherman, and dedicated mentor.

A devoted family man, Rick never spared on love for his wife and daughters. He invested in adventures and moments with those he loved, both near and far. He always lent an ear and tried to return sound wisdom. Papa Rick modeled hard work and respect. His high expectations facilitated his daughters finding their own way to succeed. He prioritized family.

Steb was an incredible athlete with state and national titles in track and hockey, respectively. As a gifted woodworker, he crafted beautiful furniture, showcasing his creativity and attention to detail. He brought passion to his fishing expeditions, spending countless hours on the water, sharing big stories with even bigger fish. Rick’s engineering career ranged from HVAC to heat processing. He traveled extensively, earned a patent, and made many lifelong friends.

Preceded in death by parents, Joseph Steblay and Mabel Steblay née Stock and brother, Joe Steblay. Survived by wife, Maura Steblay née Blonigan; daughters, Maria (Nathan) Ahrendt and Natalie Steblay; sister, Toni McMillin and brother, Robert (Nancy) Steblay.

Funeral Thursday, November 2 at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 13600 Technology Dr., Eden Prairie. Visitation 10am, funeral 11am. Celebration of life Thursday, November 16 at Rockwoods, 9100 Quaday Ave. NE, Otsego from 5-10pm.
