Dick was born on February 14, 1941 in International Falls, Minnesota where he grew up and spent most of his life. He graduated from Falls High School in 1959 and married his high school sweetheart, Liz, on September 2, 1961.
He had a long career working at Boise Cascade in International Falls and retired from the Accounting Department in 1999 after 40 years of dedicated service.
Dick and Liz worked hard to achieve their dream of living on Rainy Lake. They spent 32 years in their home on Birch Point before moving permanently to the Realife Cooperative at Mueller Gardens in St. Cloud where they made many new friends.
Dick was known for keeping busy around the house with various projects and was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. His hobbies included gardening, woodworking, fishing, traveling, and spending time with his family. He was actively involved at Mueller Gardens with the Gardening, Woodworking and Finance Committees, as well as serving on the Board of Directors. He attended Zion Lutheran Church in International Falls and Celebration Lutheran Church in Sartell. When he was unable to attend in person he took part in the online services.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents William and Mabel Forsythe; wife, Liz; brother, Sonny Forsythe, and sister, Ruby Estabrooks.
He is survived by daughters Pamela Forsythe (Mike Mills) and Lisa Hill (Ken); grandsons Nicholas and Bennett (Emylla); brother Poncho Forsythe, sisters Delores (Lala) Weiberg and Karen Piekarski; and brother-in-law Fred Gunderson (Connie).
The family would like to thank Moments Hospice for the care and compassion they showed Dick in his final days. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 10, at 11AM at Zion Lutheran Church in International Falls, MN.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Dick’s honor to the ALS Foundation or Zion Lutheran Church. Dick’s legacy of kindness, strength and family devotion will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
