Richard Allen (Rich) Davey of Burnsville, MN, passed away peacefully on September 10th, 2024 at the Minneapolis VA Hospital at the age of 82. He was born on May 5th, 1942 to Shirley and Russell Davey in Newark, NJ. He was the youngest of three boys and was only 2 1/2 lbs. at birth.
Rich grew up in Maplewood, NJ, where in high school he was in football and Boy Scouts where he earned his Eagle Scout Badge. He graduated in 1960 from Columbia High School and that fall joined the Air Force. Rich was stationed at Bitburg Air Base in Bitburg, Germany. He spent four years there as military police and K-9 handler.
Upon returning to the states, he went to broadcasting school in Los Angeles,CA, where he acquired his first class license in broadcasting. He found his way to Minnesota where he worked at a couple of small stations and had a weekly German Show in Shakopee on KSSM. He was fluent in German and was quite a hit with Germans in that area.
Rich met his wife, Sheryl, at Eddie Webster’s in 1982. They married December 3rd, 1983.
Rich was preceded in death by his two brothers, Russell Jr. and Robert. He is survived by his wife, Sheryl; children, Frankie (Germany), Mary Reilly (Bloomfield, NJ), Rebecca (Becky) Davey (Burnsville); granddaughter, Erin Reilly; as well as many Lindberg relatives and friends.
Rich will be interred at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in a private service. There will be a Celebration of Life at the Apple Valley American Legion on October 11th, 2024 from 5:00-8:00 pm.
