Rev. Calvin Anthony Selwyn, Sr. was born August 31, 1943, in Wagner, South Dakota and passed peacefully on January 5, 2024, surrounded by family at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Calvin loved to spend time with family and friends. He enjoyed reading his bible and spending time praying for others. Calvin was a patriot entering the U.S. Army at the age of 17 and served his country in Korea and two tours in Vietnam. He was awarded many medals including two Bronze Stars, two Vietnam Cross of Gallantry Medals with Palm and a Purple Heart. After 18 years of military service, he completed his college education at North Central Bible College and was ordained as a full-time minister to Native Americans in the Minneapolis area. He is remembered as always having a smile and kind word for others. He was a loving and caring person, family man, father, and friend. He enjoyed home cooked meals with family, treating others to dinner out, and cheering on his grandchildren in their many sports.
Calvin is survived by his ex-wife Olivia Selwyn, daughter Dawn Selwyn of Albuquerque, NM, son Dr. Calvin Selwyn, Jr. and wife Jennifer, of Maui, HI, daughter Andrea Clark and husband Shannon of Cottage Grove, MN, and son Matthew Selwyn of Albuquerque, NM, and six grandchildren Hannah, Chassen, Jaidon, Gavin, Ethan, and Donovan. He passed on his love for animals to his children and so it is no surprise he also had 6 grand dogs. Calvin is preceded in death by his father George Leo Selwyn, his mother Juanita Redwing-Selwyn, his older brothers John Selwyn, Robert Selwyn, and his sisters Charlene Selwyn and Grace Selwyn.
A celebration of life service for Calvin will be held Friday, March 22, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Eagle Brook Church, Woodbury, MN. Light refreshments to follow the service, Friday, March 22, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at The Legends of Cottage Grove, 6999 E. Point Douglas Road S., Cottage Grove, MN. An inurnment with military honors will occur Friday, March 22, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, 7601 34th Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55450.

Flowers may be sent to the Eagle Brook Church the morning of March 22nd for the service.
