Renee Hunter passed away peacefully at home on September 8, 2024 in Golden Valley, Minnesota.
Renee (Allen) Hunter was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 1949 to Morris and Eddie Mae (Richards) Allen, in Minneapolis, MN.
Growing up in North Minneapolis, she attended Minneapolis public schools, graduating from North High School. Renee also went on to graduate from the University of MN with a BS degree, as well as earning a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from St. Thomas University.
Renee married her childhood sweetheart, Ronald Hunter, in 1974. They have one daughter, Lindsey Allen Hunter. Renee and her family were loved and welcomed into the large extended Hunter family. Renee often said, “I could not have asked for a more loving and caring family; how fortunate I have been.”
Renee loved teaching and spent her adult life teaching preschool and elementary school for 20+ years. She especially had a passion for Grant Community Preschool, located at Community Covenant Church in Minneapolis. “I feel that early childhood education is perhaps the first – most-- important education for young children besides their parents.”
Renee was a self-taught gardener. She also loved collecting art, antiquing, fashion design, and interior decorating. She was known to be an empathetic and nurturing woman who always remembered to recognize and celebrate the birthdays of family and close friends. She wanted to extend “a special thank you to women who helped shape me: Sylvia Amos, Adrienne Breland, Yolanda Clark, Alika Galloway, Helen Howell, Bonnie Hunter, Diane Hunter, Arlis Ross, Hazel Sloan, Clara Solomon, and especially, my mother."
Renee was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Richard Allen.
Renee is survived by her loving husband, Ron; exceptional daughter, Lindsey (T. Ro); resilient brother, Randy; nephew, Rafael (Kimberly); niece, Grace; grand-nephews and nieces, Naomi, Caleb, Nina, Nigel, and Jude; bonus niece and grandkids, Aria, Raeven, and Sheila; and extra grandkids, Emmett, Rose, and Alma; many relatives from Cartersville, GA, along with many other relatives and dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Community Covenant Church, Hospitality House Youth Development, or Twin Cities Public Television.
Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2024 with a reception at 4:30pm and a short program starting at 5pm at Brookview Community Center – Bassett Creek Room, 316 Brookview Pkwy, Golden Valley, MN 55427.
