Matthew Thomas Mueller was born at Unity Hospital in Fridley on March 20, 1993. He passed away unexpectedly at the age of 30 in his Circle Pines apartment in early September, 2023.
Matthew married Alaina Ekegren on September 6, 2020 at the Springbrook Nature Center and they separated in July of 2022. He is survived by his parents, Dan & Carol Mueller, his brother, Christopher Mueller, a large family of loving aunts, uncles, cousins and many wonderful friends & neighbors.
Matthew was baptized & confirmed at Cross of Glory ELCA Church in Mounds View & attended Mounds View Public Schools. He earned his Arrow of Light with Cub Scout Pack 167 & was a 1st Class Scout with Boy Scout Troop 367.
Matthew was musically gifted and played several string, wind & keyboard instruments. His favorite guitar music to play was blues in the style of BB King, Buddy Guy, Stevie Ray Vaughan and more contemporary guitarists, including Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Led Zeplin, Pink Floyd, John Mayer, and Eric Clapton.
Matthew loved to cook & bake. In his sophomore & junior years, he competed in contests & won scholarship dollars from the Le Cordon Blu Institute while he worked at the Big 10 Supper Club. After high school, Matthew gave back the scholarship winnings & accepted a baker position with Panera instead. He was soon promoted to a baker trainer position, rotating to their restaurants in Minnetonka, Maplewood, Elk River, Coon Rapids & Brooklyn Center.
To advance his future goal to have a food truck or restaurant one day, Matthew left Panera after 6 years and became a cook/sous chef for a privately owned, local restaurant chain headquartered in Blaine. He gained broad restaurant experience at T-Box & Bricks, but his favorite was the casual dining menu & atmosphere at Roadside.
In 2019, Matthew transitioned to a procurement role & later promoted to set-up & machinist responsibilities at RMS, a medical manufacturing facility in Coon Rapids, where he earned many Excellence Awards.
Matthew loved camping and spending time on the North Shore of Lake Superior. After witnessing the ‘birth’ of Castle Danger Ale, Matthew was inspired to brew his own beer.
Matthew loved to compete with his brother Chris on their trap shooting league at the Beaverbrook Gun Club. He studied American & World History, collected military & antique guns, enjoyed playing pool & volleyball, long boarding & riding motorcycles. He had a small photography business, specializing in nature photos & vehicles at Car Shows. Matthew visited Cape Canaveral/Kennedy Space Center several times, was greatly interested in space exploration & closely followed the SpaceEx & other launches online.
Matthew was a kind & generous man of faith who made friends easily across all age groups throughout his life journey. He was creative, artistic & had started developing recipes to publish with his photos in a cookbook.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11am on Monday, September 25, 2023, at Abiding Savior ELCA Church, 8211 Red Oak Dr., Mounds View, MN. Visitation begins at 10am.
