

Marie Leona Berg of New Prague, Minnesota passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at the age of 92. She was born on November 27, 1931, at home, in a tar paper shack in Nicollet, Minnesota. She was a three pound, first born child of ten children. She grew up in Northern Minnesota.
Marie graduated from Northwestern Bible College and Minneapolis General Hospital School of Nursing.
She worked as a linguist translator and nurse missionary in Peru, and Bogota, Colombia from 1962-2019 when the final translation work was completed for the Cuiva Tribe and the Colombian government.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Lena Victoria Larson Berg; father, LeRoy Raymond Berg; brothers, Donald R. Berg, Ronald J. Berg, Raymond L. Berg, and Kenneth G. Berg; sister, Betty J. Tainter; brothers-in-law, George Selin, Dennis Horner, and Willis Tainter; sisters-in-law, Sharon Berg, Ann Marie Berg, and Sandy Berg; nephews, Mark Evans, Randahl Berg, and Ricky Berg; and nieces, Rachel Berg, Karen Berg, Jan Evans, and Laura Evans.
Marie is survived by her brother, Russell E.A. Berg; sisters, Edna E. Selin, Janet R.A. Horner, and Barbara J. Banis; brother-in law, Ronald Banis; sisters-in-law, Linda Berg and Marilyn McCarrick; as well as many nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by her fellow missionary partner, Isabel Kerr.
The family would like to thank Marie’s Nurse case manager for the past year and a half, Katie P., her aid, Amber T., the St. Croix Hospice staff, Nurse case manager, Kortnee, and aids, Kelia and Cody, for the outstanding care and compassion they showed our loved one during her time living in Minnesota and through her final days. You all were amazing help, comfort, and courage to Marie and her family when it was needed most. Thank you from the depths of our hearts. We have lost a treasure trove of wisdom and information with the loss of Marie.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Celebration of Life, at Faith Point, 1051 270th Street West, New Prague, Minnesota 56071 on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 11:00. Visitation with the family will begin at 10:00 with a light lunch to follow.
