Marian De Etta Helling

Marian D. (Midlang) Helling was born on August 29, 1931 to Leonard and Edna Midlang of rural Kensett, Iowa. She passed away on March 2, 2023 at the age of 91. She grew up in Kensett and Northwood, Iowa. After graduating from Kensett High School, she attended Waldorf Junior College in Forest City, Iowa. She married Archie L. Helling on June 26, 1946 t Elk Creek Lutheran Church. They farmed and operated a sand and gravel business in rural Iowa until Archie died in 1967.

Marian and her seven children moved to Richfield, MN. in 1969. She worked a number of different jobs, including many years in the Registrar of Titles for Hennepin County. In 1982, she graduated from St. Catherine University in St. Paul, MN with Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration. After graduation, she worked as a mortgage underwriter for Wells Fargo until she retired in 2000.

Marian spent her retirement years involved with family activities. Her home in Richfield was the site of many family gatherings. Christmas was her favorite with many decorations and plenty of food. Her hobbies were gardening, sewing, and quilting.

Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Archie; daughter, Diane Helling; grand daughter, Heather Helling; parents, Leonard and Edna Midlang; stepmother, Selma Midlang; all five brothers, Miltom, Dennis, Baby Boy, Norris (Luella), Leslie (Millie); nephew, James Midlang; niece, Joanne Dahlberg.

She is survived by her six children, Dennis Helling, Randi Helling (Ken Mentz), Linda Larson, Julie Helling, Andy Helling (Pauline), Bob Helling (Ericka); grandchildren, Laura Helling, Jennifer Helling, Alicia Helling, Allison Martz (Jason Wood), Mariana Campbell (Lee), Zachary Larson (Tammy), Charles Larson (Amber), Benjamin Larson, Alex Helling (Joelene Kronz), Briana Helling, Josh Laven, Elizabeth Helling; nine great grandchildren; her nephew, Ron Lance (Sharon); nieces, Donna Rhodes (Luther), Darlene Midlang.

Family and friends are invited to attend her funeral at Elk Creek Lutheran Church, 4108 Killdeer Ave. Kensett, IA 50448 on April 29th, 2023 at 2:00 PM.
