Margie, of Coon Rapids, MN, was born on January 8, 1931, in Junction City, Kansas, to Glen Oliver and Velma Grace (Brooks) and grew up as one of five children in a close-knit family. She graduated from Junction City High School in 1949.
In 1947, Margie met her husband, Kenneth Vincent Gartrell, who was in town playing baseball for the Junction City Semi-Pro team. Their marriage led to the birth of two sons, Vincent and Mark. Margie cherished her role as a mother and homemaker, finding joy in the daily moments of nurturing her family.
Margie was a creative soul with a passion for the arts. She loved sewing, painting, cooking, and drawing, often expressing herself through these mediums. Her artistic spirit and devotion to family made her a beloved figure, not only as a mother but also as a grandmother and great-grandmother. Her love, care, and warmth will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Velma; siblings, Darlene Wilson, Jerry Brooks, Sharon Elaine Hook, and Wallace Brooks; and her son, Vincent Lee Gartrell.
Margie is survived by her son, Mark Joseph Gartrell (wife, Mary); her grandson, Gabriel Joseph Gartrell (partner, Noy); granddaughter, Vanessa Elizabeth Vega (husband, Jorge); and great-grandchildren, Lucia Vega and Alex Vega.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Suite Living in North Saint Paul for the care and compassion they provided during Margie's final days.
A private interment will take place for the immediate family.
