Leroy Thomas Kies

LeRoy "Lee" Thomas Kies, age 89, of Woodbury, MN, passed away peacefully at 10pm on February 5, 2025, just two hours shy of his 90th birthday. He had been residing at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Minneapolis for the last 3½ years.

Lee proudly served in the Air Force before dedicating 41 years of his career to the American Can Company. He was passionate about snow-skiing and golf, and was a staunch supporter of the Vikings and the Minnesota Gophers.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Anita Kies; his brother, Michael Kies (Joni Obert); his loving daughter, Terri Kies; sons, Steve Kies, David Kies (Christine), Gary Kies, and Mark Rausch (Rebecca); plus 12 cherished grandchildren, one great-grandson, nieces, nephews, and numerous friends.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Ann (Riley) Kies, sisters, Ruth (Lenny Anderson), Shirley (Denny Lyon), and his son, Ronald Kies. He will be interned at Fort Snelling in a private ceremony at the end of February.

The family wishes to express special gratitude to the staff at the Minnesota Veterans Home of Minneapolis for their exceptional care and the heartfelt companionship they provided to Lee and his family.
