Judith "Judy" Ann Murphy of Wayzata, Minnesota passed away on Sunday, September 1st, 2024 at the age of 83, surrounded by her family. She was born on October 24, 1940 in Superior, Wisconsin where she grew up with her parents, James and Ruth Movick, and her younger brother, Jim. Judy met her lifelong love, Patrick Murphy, after high school in Superior, Wisconsin and they later married. Judy and Pat moved to Minnesota in 1962 and later settled in Wayzata where they raised a family of their own.
Judy worked as a primary school teacher after graduating from Superior State University in 1962.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Movick; her mother, Ruth Ann Movick; and her brother, Jim Movick.
She is survived by her husband, Patrick Murphy; their four daughters, Kathleen (Paul) Cancilla, Shannon (Roger) Burks, Megan (Todd) Thul, and Molly (Mike) Setnicker, as well as five grandsons, James Patrick "JP", Charlie, and George Thul, and Sam and Ben Setnicker.
Anyone who knew Judy would tell you she was warm and caring, had a quick wit, loved her husband deeply, as well as her four girls, sons-in-law, and grandsons. She could have a conversation with anyone and always made others feel special and interesting. Judy was always up for a party or good time and she had the best wink in the state. She enjoyed summers at their lake cabin in northern Wisconsin.
The family would like to thank Methodist Hospital’s doctors and nurses for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in her final days. In addition, we want to thank The Villas of St. Louis Park for their care of our wife/mother for the past 2.5 years.
A celebration to honor Judy will be planned at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her honor to Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
