John Richard Wiegand of Maple Grove, Minnesota passed away peacefully on August 17th at the age of 84 at the Minneapolis Veterans Home. He was born in 1942 in Wheaton, Illinois where he spent most of his childhood.
John enlisted in the Air Force in 1966 serving four years as a medical clerk at the George Air Force Base in California.
After years in commercial construction sales, John launched his own agency, JW Architectural Products, partnering with Key Resin to bring top-tier floor coatings to market. More than just business, he loved the hustle, the specifications, and the lifelong friendships he built with architects and contractors along the way. After 35 years in sales John retired at age 75.
John was an avid runner who proudly completed the Twin Cities Marathon. He enjoyed playing tennis and, later in life discovered a true passion for pickleball. He loved attending Timberwolves games, but his heart belonged to Chicago. He was the ultimate fan of the Chicago Bulls, Cubs, and Bears! He loved his teams and was always proud to cheer them on.
John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He especially cherished spending time with his grandchildren and was actively involved in their lives. Whether attending sporting events, concerts, graduations, birthday celebrations, or simply spending time together, John treasured every opportunity to support and share in the lives of his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years Ruth (Toot) Wiegand; his children, Jeff (Heather), Christy, Laurie, and Andrew; his bonus children, Kelly Sorby, Jason (Cathy) Williams, and Matt (Ann) Williams; his siblings, Nancy, Joyce (Max), Judy, and Jim (Gail); along with 17 grandchildren, many nephews, nieces and dear friends.
John is preceded in death by parents, Florence and Raymond Wiegand.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Minneapolis Veterans Home for the care, compassion, and kindness they showed John throughout his stay and during his final days. We are deeply grateful for all that they did for our beloved John.
