John Eugene Speier

John Eugene Speier (“Jack Speier”), age 79, passed away on July 6, 2023 in Minneapolis MN. Preceded in death by parents Albion & Dorothy Speier and brother James. He is survived by his wife, Jennine Latorre Speier; nieces Jess Anna Glover and Sarah Jo Speier-Newbegin and other family members.

He was a graduate of Washburn High School, received his undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota and then graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School. Jack worked as an attorney/statute editor at West Publishing (now Thomson-Reuters) from 1969-2009. He and Jennine met in Minnesota Rovers, a hiking group and enjoyed many years of backpacking and travel. Jack led several trips for the Rovers as well as the Sierra Club; he loved Lake Superior so included trips to Isle Royale and the Porcupine Mountains in Michigan. Friends always remark on Jack's organization skills and his kindness. He also loved classical music and was a great supporter of the Minnesota Orchestra. He will be cremated; no services are planned. Many thanks to the wonderful staff of the Ecumen/Abiitan Memory Care Unit as well as Ecumen Hospice staff for their loving care over the last few years.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Minnesota Orchestra or to Ecumen Hospice.
