It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jeffrey Allen Sundstrom on June 15, 2026.
Jeff was born on March 31st 1988 and was raised in Cottage Grove, Minnesota, and later made his home in West St. Paul. From an early age, he forged his own path through life with a fierce independence and a spirit that could never be contained. Those who knew Jeff knew there was no one quite like him. He lived boldly, loved deeply, and remained unapologetically himself every step of the way.
Jeff proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, including service in Iraq during the Iraq War. His time in the military shaped him in many ways and instilled in him a deep sense of loyalty, resilience, and brotherhood. After returning home, he built a career as a pipefitter and became a proud member of Pipefitters Union Local 455, where he found another family among his union brothers and sisters.
While Jeff wore many titles throughout his life—Marine, pipefitter, son, brother, and friend—the role he treasured most was being a father. His greatest love was his son, Wyatt. Everything Jeff hoped for in life centered around making sure Wyatt knew he was loved. The bond they shared will forever remain a part of Jeff’s legacy.
Jeff is survived by his son, Wyatt Sundstrom; his mother, Jacqueline Heathcote (Bruce Matzdorff); his father, Tim (Michele) Sundstrom; his sister, Melissa Sundstrom; stepbrother Matt Asbill ; stepsister Morgan Valentin and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, friends, fellow Marines, and union brothers who mourn his loss and celebrate the life he lived.
To know Jeff was to know someone who never pretended to be anything other than who he was. He was strong-willed, loyal, stubborn, generous, funny, and unforgettable. He had a way of leaving an impression on people that lasted long after the conversation ended. His life was not defined by perfection but by authenticity, courage, and a refusal to compromise who he was.
Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, those who loved him find comfort in the memories he created, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave in his own unique way.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026 from 4-7 PM at the VFW Red Barn, 9260 Pt Douglas Road, Cottage Grove, MN 55016.
A private family interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery will be held at a later date.
As we say goodbye, we hold tightly to the words that capture Jeff so perfectly: he lived his life unapologetically.
