James William Hansen

James William Hansen of Oakdale, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at his home at the age of 91 after a courageous battle with end-stage renal disease. He was born on December 22, 1934, to Irving and Josephine. He was preceded in death by his parents and his four older brothers: Irving, Gerald, John and Robert.

Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a radio operator while stationed in Paris, France. Throughout his life, he pursued a variety of careers, each reflecting his strong work ethic and willingness to embrace new opportunities. He spent the final 13 years of his career at Handi Medical, where he found great fulfillment before retiring in 2012. He often said he had saved the best job for last.

On November 1, 1975, Jim married the love of his life, Janet, beginning a marriage filled with love, laughter, and devotion. Together they blended a family of nine children. Jim brought six children to the marriage: Gregory (Candie), Daniel, Jeanne (Clayton), Pamela, Stephen (Sayphin), and Laura. Janet brought three children: Sheri, Sandy (Mike), and Tami. Together they created a loving home centered on family, faith, and lasting memories. They were greatly blessed with 20 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Jim leaves behind a legacy of countless stories, laughter, and cherished memories that will continue to be shared for generations. His quick wit, generous heart, and unwavering love for his family will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jim's life on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Saint Andrew's Church, 900 Stillwater Road, Mahtomedi, Minnesota. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. In keeping with Jim's wishes, all are invited to stay after the service to celebrate his life over coffee and an abundance of cookies and dessert bars—his favorite way to enjoy "a large amount of sugar."
