Gene Arthur Daugherty, of 3120 Chestnut Street, Chaska, MN, passed away on Monday, February 17, at the age of 91. He was born on March 4, 1933, in Steuben, WI, and grew up in Waterford, WI. Gene graduated from Waterford High School in 1952 where he lettered in baseball, basketball, and football.
After graduation, he married his wife of 70 years, Shirley Mae Pierce, and served in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Alaska. Upon his discharge, they settled in Madison, WI, and together had one son, Kurt A. Daugherty of Eden Prairie, MN.
Gene worked for 35 years in various managerial roles in five different Wisconsin towns and cities for the Wisconsin Bell Telephone Company. His final stop was in Milwaukee, WI, where he retired in 1988.
Gene was actively involved in The Brookfield Congregational Church, Talking Books and Local Kiwanis, and American Legion Post. He also served as the Waterford Square Condominium Association Board President. He enjoyed golf and would go whenever anyone would ask, and even when no one did.
Gene is survived by his wife, Shirley Mae Daugherty (Pierce), Chaska, MN; son, Kurt A. Daugherty, and daughter-in-law, Debra A. Daugherty (Ramponi), Eden Prairie, MN; granddaughter, Margaret P. Miles, and her husband, Justin Miles, Carver, MN; two great-grandchildren, Logan James Miles and Athena Pierce Miles also of Chaska, MN.
The family would like to thank all of the nursing and support staff at Chaske Senior Living Center, Chaska, MN, for the care and compassion they showed Gene in his final weeks of care.
