Born on November 5, 1942, Gene lived a life defined by hard work, quiet strength, kindness, and an unwavering devotion to his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose gentle spirit and warm sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Gene dedicated more than 30 years of his career as a lineman with NSP, now Xcel Energy, where he earned the respect of his coworkers through his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence. Following his retirement, he continued sharing his knowledge and passion for the trade as a consultant and instructor with Xcel Energy for more than five years, helping train and mentor the next generation.
Outside of work, Gene found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved gathering around the table for poker and countless other card games, cheering on his favorite sports teams, and, above all, spending time with his family. Whether sharing a laugh, offering quiet advice, or simply being present, Gene made those around him feel loved and supported.
Those who knew Gene will remember him as kind, caring, patient, and dependable. He possessed a wonderful sense of humor and a calm, steady presence that brought comfort to those around him. To his family, he was an amazing father and grandfather whose love was constant, unconditional, and deeply felt.
Gene was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, RoAnn Sue Schroeder; his parents, Arden Schroeder Sr. and Ethel Lorraine Schroeder; his brother, Arden "Ardie" Schroeder Jr.; and his sister, Arlene Sullivan.
He is lovingly survived by his daughter, Thirza Gertzen; his son-in-law, Eric Gertzen; and his cherished grandson, Kaden Gertzen, along with many extended family members, friends, and former colleagues who will miss him dearly.
Gene's legacy is one of love, integrity, generosity, and quiet strength. The lessons he taught through his actions, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave so freely will continue to live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
