Ernest Allen Satren, a longtime resident of Bloomington, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 27, 2025, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Born on February 20, 1943, in St. Paul, Minnesota, he was the son of Arthur and Esther Satren. After graduating from St. Paul Park High School, he attended the University of Minnesota for a semester before enlisting in the Navy. From 1962 to 1966, he served as an electronic technician at the China Lake Station in the Western Mojave Desert of California. Following his military service, Ernest began a long and distinguished career at Honeywell, working in the research lab for 38 years until his retirement in 2005. During his tenure, he was credited with several U.S. patents.
It was at Grace Lutheran Church in St. Paul that he met Sharon Woster, and the two married on July 22, 1978, building a life together rooted in faith and family. He’ll be most remembered for his love for the Lord, his commitment to the Church and how he provided and cared for his family over the following years.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Ernest is survived by his wife, Sharon; his children, Michelle (Aaron) Olson, Micah (Tamara) Satren, Kristin (Josh) Koehnen, and Laura (Robert) Franklin; and his beloved grandchildren, Edell, Jerome, Olen; Brynlee, Broden, Britta, Bryker; Everett, Wyatt; and Jackson. He was a dedicated member of Emmaus Lutheran Church in Bloomington, serving in numerous roles, including church council member, usher, money counter, Bible study leader, and youth group mentor.
Ernest found great joy in working with young people, especially leading camping trips in the Bighorn Mountains in his early years. He cherished watching his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting and performance events, camping up North with his family, playing games, and volunteering at church. In later years, he and Sharon enjoyed traveling in their camper to Texas, Utah, and Colorado, playing dominoes, and listening to live music.
He is also survived by his sister, Geraldine (Lindquist), and nephews, Jeff (Mayra) and Gary Lindquist. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers-in-law, Curt Lindquist and Craig Steinman.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 6 from 10–11 a.m. at Emmaus Lutheran Church, 8443 2nd Avenue S, Bloomington, followed by a ceremony and luncheon. A private burial at Fort Snelling will take place at a later date.
