Today, we mourn the loss of a glass ceiling breaker, world traveler, devoted mother, and captain of the seas. Captain Ellen Hanson passed away in the early morning of March 10th, 2026, at 65-years-young, after a decade-long battle with breast cancer. Ellen leaves behind her son Anthony, daughter Rachael, granddaughter Niomi, son-in-law Napoleon, ten siblings: Bonnie (Russ )Japs, Joe (Jane ) Zweber , Trish Anton, Lois (Bill ) Huber, Leann (Chris) Bull, Julie (Vince) Steineke, Duane (Mary) Zweber, Jim (Mauricio) Zweber, Jane (Jon) Trent, Don (Lisa) Zweber and many nieces and nephews.
She joins her parents, Martha and Anton Zweber, her sister Marilyn, and her partner Matt in passing.
Ellen loved connecting with people everywhere she went, and her kind spirit was magnetic and uplifting. She was an inspiration and mentor to other women, and her actions fostered dialogue and respect for the working women in her fields. Her legacy of women's empowerment encourages us to carry her spirit forward.
Ellen loved music, the ocean, and travel, but more than anything, she loved being a mother and yaya (grandmother). She raised two passionate children who have dedicated their lives to education and helping those in need. While we mourn her loss, we celebrate the great gift she was to all of us. Her beautiful smiles, her laughter, and her love will all be deeply missed.
A celebration for Ellen’s life will be held on June 7, 2026 between 5 and 9pm at: Riley-Jacques Barn 9180 Riley Lake Road, Eden Prairie, MN, 55347.
