Duane Arthur Nelson, age 98, of Arden Hills, Minnesota, passed away on February 14, 2026. A friend to many and a steady, familiar presence to all who knew him, Duane lived a long and full life marked by hard work, quick wit, and a gift for storytelling.
Born on February 4, 1928, Duane was the son of Arthur and Veona “Bobby” (Utphall) Nelson. He grew up with his brother, Darrel. From an early age he developed a love of cars that became a lifelong trademark. If you asked Duane when something happened, he wouldn’t give you a date—he’d tell you the make and model he was behind the wheel of.
On August 12, 1948, Duane married the love of his life, Corinne Ardell French. Since Corinne’s passing in 2021, Duane waited with quiet devotion for the day he could join her again. After 73 years of marriage and three years missing her, he is surely at peace by her side once more.
Together they raised four children: Jon; Nancy Imbrone (Larry Wamstad); Scott (LeeAnn); and Dan. Duane was the proud grandfather of Alicia (Bill), Katy, Allyson (Andy), Maggie (Tim), Rosie (Jonathan), and Micheal; and great grandfather of Toby, Lydia, Austin, Mason, Penny, Eleanore, Amelia, Elijah, and Ruth. His family will forever remember his resourcefulness (there I fixed it), his humor, and quick wit.
Duane was preceded in death by his brother Darrel; Marion and James Glassel; Harlen and June French; and brother‑in‑law Robert Blomgren. He is survived by sisters‑in‑law Betty Lou Nelson and Elverna Blomgren.
Duane graduated from St. Croix Falls High School and went on to build a varied and meaningful career. He worked for the railroad and was proud to draw a railroad pension. He later became the proprietor of Roseville Shell and eventually retired from Minnesota Diversified Products. He also served as a firefighter with the Lake Johanna Volunteer Fire Department, a role he carried with pride.
Outside of work, Duane enjoyed hunting, cooking for “the guys”, spending time in Markville, vacationing with neighbors and relatives, and volunteering at Press Homes. He was well known for holding court in his New Brighton garage, where neighbors and friends could count on a warm welcome, a good story, and a glass of wine. His humor was quick, his presence comforting, and his stories—whether new or well worn—were always worth listening to.
For the last three years, Dewey made his home at Round Lake Senior Living, where he formed many new friendships and was warmly embraced by residents and staff. His kindness, his stories, and his familiar smile made him a welcome part of the community.
Duane leaves behind a lifetime of memories, a family who adored him, and a circle of friends who will miss his presence and his steady, good natured spirit. In lieu of flowers or memorials, the family asks only for your thoughts and prayers.
A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Round Lake Senior Living, 1740 Parkshore Dr., Arden Hills, MN 55112. Service at 10:30 a.m., with a luncheon to follow at 11:00 a.m.
