Dale Warren Hamilton Jr.

On the morning of Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at the age of 78, God called Dale to his eternal home. He passed away unexpectedly in his sleep. Dale was born on December 23, 1947, in Hastings, Minnesota, to Dale W. Hamilton, Sr. and Lillian Hamilton. In 1971, he moved to Cottage Grove where he built a life centered around family, hard work, and his cherished values.

Dale met the love of his life Joyanne "Joy" in 1968 while stationed in Philadelphia. In June, they celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. They travelled the world together during their retirement creating lasting memories. Dale enjoyed spending family time at their Wisconsin cabin.

Throughout his life, Dale was known for his kindness, strong work ethic, and devotion to his family. He was a caring father deeply involved in his daughters’ lives, whether through camping trips to the northwoods, coaching their softball teams, or watching them perform at dance/music recitals and other events. Dale was always present, supportive, and proud of their accomplishments. His grandson, Hunter, was his pride and joy. He took Hunter to his hockey and football practices throughout his school years, never missing a game and always cheering him on. One of Dale's favorite memories was their Canadian fishing trip when Hunter was young, followed by snorkeling adventures in the Caribbean. He was looking forward to spending more time with Hunter on our upcoming September cruise.

Dale was a proud veteran who served his country in the United States Navy. He was honored with the National Defense Service Medal. After his release, he was employed by 3M Company in Research and Development, retiring after 46 years. He received the Circle of Technical Excellence and Innovation (CTEI), 3M's highest global corporate award. Dale earned the respect and friendship of his colleagues through his dedication and integrity.

Dale is survived by his loving wife, Joy; his daughters, Tracy Hamilton and Kristie (Jamie) Greshowak; his grandson, Hunter Greshowak; and his brothers, Gary (Mary) and Ray; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Barbara; and his brothers, Donald and Lee.

Respecting Dale's wishes, a memorial gathering to celebrate his life will be held at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery with military funeral honors.

Dale’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, and he will be deeply missed.
