Cecilia Pauline Mueller-Story

January 21, 1935 — September 27, 2023

Cecilia P. “Sue” Mueller-Story, age 88, of Mankato passed away peacefully in her home on September 27, 2023.

Memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m., on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Mankato. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at Northview – North Mankato Mortuary, as well as one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Mankato.

Cecilia (Sue) was born January 21, 1935, in Nampa, Idaho to George and Pauline (Goetz) Seitz. She grew up on the family ranch. She earned an art scholarship with Art Instruction, Inc and received a certificate in Commercial Designing in 1953.

She married James Steinbauer in 1953 and had three children. Sue worked at Josten’s in Owatonna; Barnett Photography, Artcraft and Carlson Craft of Mankato. With a God given talent in the arts, she later opened her own studio in Mankato, “Custom Art by Sue”. She was a prolific painter and restored many damaged and antique works of art for churches and families throughout Minnesota.

Sue loved knitting, baking, embroidery, fishing, bowling, listening to music, singing in SSPP choir and bell ringing and especially walking her beloved dog, Ginger. She always had a smile and waved to the neighbors, developing a strong neighborhood bond. Sue enjoyed watching old western TV shows, any documentary that featured Idaho. She was not afraid to tackle any home improvement herself.

Christmas was always fun bringing the whole family together to celebrate. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchild brought her much joy. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Cecilia is survived by her children, John (Paulette Wilson), Kathleen Black, and Bernadette (Patrick) Herzog; grandchildren, Joshua (Abeer), Elijah (Terri), Jacob (Kristina), Sarah (John), Magdalene, Rebecca, Daniel (Gillian), Crystal (Aaron), Faith, Angela (Quincy), and Valerie; great-grandchildren, Carter, Quincy II, Deonte, Olivia, Jacob, and Seraphina; great-great-grandchild, Deonte Jr., as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Cecilia was preceded in death by her husbands, James Steinbauer, Robert Mueller and John Story; parents, four grandchildren, and many long-time friends.
