Carolyn “Kay” Meyers (nee Williams) of Vadnais Heights, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2024 at the age of 88.
Kay was born in the family farmhouse on November 27, 1935 in Chaseburg, Wisconsin and grew up on the family farm. As a child she went to a one room schoolhouse and graduated from Viroqua High School. She attended school in Minneapolis and became a lab technician. Kay met her husband Robert "Bob" J. Meyers in Albert Lea, Minnesota.
Kay was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bob Meyers; her parents, Halmer and Ellen Williams; siblings, Harlan (Darlene) Williams, Wess (Doris) Williams, Rena (Art) Theige, and Ralph (Pat) Williams; and her sister-in-law, Shirley Kallberg.
Kay is survived by her children, Mary (Mark) Payette and R James Meyers; her grandchildren, Kristen (Tyler) Rohloff, Joe (Danika) Payette, Lucas Meyers, and Philip Meyers; great-grandchildren, Gavyn and Chase Rohloff and Ella and Evie Payette; her sister-in-law, Darlene Williams; and many nieces and nephews.
Kay and Bob moved to Woodbury, Minnesota when Mary and James were young and began the adventure of their business, Shoreview Metalcraft (the “shop”). She ran the business with the help of James after Bob passed away in 2003. Kay continued to go into the shop every day until she became ill in May of 2023.
Kay had many grand fishing adventures with Bob in Canada and the Northwest Territories (north of the Arctic Circle). She seemed to always catch the biggest fish – something that Bob was very proud of and bragged about.
Kay was a generous and gracious host, always entertaining friends and family. She insisted in doing everything for the food and she put on huge spreads where nobody went hungry and everybody took leftovers “for the ride home.”
Kay loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is lovingly remembered as being the “lollipop grandma.”
The family would like to extend special thanks to the caregivers at Atlas Villas Memory Care in Centerville, Minnesota and the special caregivers of Hospice of the Midwest for the loving care they gave her this past year. She loved them like family – and teased them like family as well. They seemed to love it.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service for Kay at St. John Lutheran Church, 1975 St. Johns Drive, Woodbury, Minnesota 55129 on Friday, June 7, 2024. Visitation will begin at 10:30am, and a service will be held at 11:30am, with a luncheon to follow. Interment will be after the luncheon at St. John Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Kay’s memory to St. John Lutheran Church or Hospice of the Midwest.
