

Alfred Viggo Anderson,M.D.,D.C. Known to many of his friends and colleagues as A.V. Anderson passed away at home on December 18, 2023. He was 84 years old. Al was born in Albert Lea, MN and grew up on his family’s farm. He started school in the local one room schoolhouse when he was 4. Al learned to play drums by being the drummer for Albert Lea High School’s girls swing band. Progressing on to playing drums for different groups in school and the high school’s marching band. Along with three friends Al started “The Hot Rockin Four”, a rockin roll band playing venues around town and in towns around the area. They played for many high school proms including several in the metropolitan area. After graduation Al attended the University of MN majoring in veterinary medicine. Due to an unfortunate incident with a bull he switched to the study of chiropractic, attending Northwestern College of Chiropractic, AKA Northwestern Health Sciences University. During his time in school and as a young chiropractor he joined The Highlights touring throughout the United States. Al had many adventures including being asked by the Four Seasons (The Jersey Boys) to be their drummer, babysitting for Cher’s young child and playing “Peggy Sue” with Buddy Holly at the The Prom Ballroom the night Buddy Holly was killed in a plane accident. Al played with Denny Sundlie’s band for several years.
Ten years after graduating from chiropractic college Al decided to go to medical school graduating from UAG School of Medicine. Shortly after graduation he started his own business, Pain Assessment and Rehabilitation Center (PARC). Al worked with chronic pain patients helping hundreds of people that had chronic pain. Dr. Anderson was Doctor to see after everything else failed. He sat on and was president of the MN Board of Medical Practice, he joined and was president of the American Association of Pain Management, Al earned an additional degree in Neurology from NWHSU. He lectured around the United States on chronic pain. After retiring Al continued to visit with many of his former patients and colleagues.
Al married Carol (Pedersen) in 1983. The majority of their time was spent on their hobby farm, Blue Moon Farm, just south of Prior Lake. With many friends help Al built a log home. Denny Sundlie and Al constructed the half mile driveway. Al and Carol love animals and had many dogs, cats, horses and ponies. Two of their dogs were inherited from patients. Al loved driving his John Deere tractor checking fence lines and making sure the paths were clear.
Al leaves behind his wife, Carol, of 40 years (Prior Lake), their sweet dog Charlotte, numerous sister and brothers-in-law, his niece Lynn Krominga (Florida), nephew Jim Krominga and his wife Eve (Phoenix), niece Laurie Felton (Anderson) and her husband Chad (Dennison, MN).
The family suggests memorials to Doctors Without Borders, your local food shelf or animal shelter. A celebration of life in Al’s honor will be held in the spring.
