William J. Flemming, 82, formerly of Pennsylvania, died peacefully in his sleep on June 25, 2023 in Fort Myers, Florida, the paradise he called home for fifteen (15) years. A loyal and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, William (Bill) is survived by his wife, Eileen (Leddy/Warburton), Bill’s sons Christian (Megan) and Brian (Michael), Eileen’s sons Jason (Jennifer) and Shaun (Dina), and his grandchildren Dakota, Gracie, Christian, Desi, Ryan, and Noah. He is also survived by several brothers, his sister, his aunt, and much loved nieces and nephews.
Bill was a proud veteran of the United States Navy who volunteered with veterans’ organizations to raise money and provide support to veterans returning home after service abroad. He hung hundreds of flags for residents in his community, believing that devotion to his country was a duty and an honor. Bill liked to say he moved to Florida for the weather, but those who knew him best suspect golf had a lot to do with it. Bill spent many a morning on the golf course, beating his sons and grandson without much effort – and creating memories that everyone will always hold close to their hearts. Bill was “The Bocce Guy” to hundreds of his fellow bocce enthusiasts, and, despite our best efforts, he won every card game (ha ha).
Bill was the father you turned to for sage advice; he was the neighbor you knew would do anything for you; he was the grandfather who made everyone laugh; he was a patriot who loved his country; he was faithful to “The Good Lord” and he was a husband who loved, protected, and cherished his wife.
A big, laughing, gregarious personality, Bill will be sorely missed.
Mass is scheduled for July 27th at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the XXIII Catholic Church in Fort Myers. Those wishing to pay their respects to Bill’s family are invited to join them prior to mass at 9:00 a.m. After mass, the interment will be at the Sarasota National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, and if you are so inclined as to make a donation, the family respectfully suggests that donations be made to Bridgetown at the Plantation Veterans Club at 11749 Kingsbridge Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33913.
