Born on November 18, 1938, in Davenport, Iowa, to Elsie and Vincent Geurink, Sylvia was a proud graduate of Davenport High School and Iowa State Teachers College.
In 1962, Sylvia married her beloved husband, Norbert, and together they built a beautiful life working and raising their family on their farm near McCausland, Iowa. In 1990, Sylvia and Norbert relocated to Bullhead City, Arizona, where she found joy in teaching first grade for 21 years, shaping the lives of countless students.
Following Norbert’s passing in 2016, Sylvia moved to Osprey, Florida, to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Kristin and Ray Ellison. She embraced this new chapter of her life with joy, spending time at the beach, attending the Senior Friendship Center to play bingo and cards. She also enjoyed watching all the birds, bobcats, deer and alligators from their tranquil backyard.
Sylvia is lovingly remembered by her sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Ken Ruefer of Davenport, Iowa; her loving children, son Dennis (Audrey) Albrecht and daughter Kristin (Ray) Ellison; and grandchildren, Logan Schmidt and Abby Albrecht and her two step-grandchildren Brandon & Danny Cook.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Norbert, her daughter Sherry, and her brother James Geurink.
Sylvia will be deeply missed for her warmth, kindness, and devotion to her family and friends.
