Born on May 20, 1960, in Springfield, Illinois, Susan was the devoted daughter of Joseph and Mary Louise Carlove.
Sue dedicated her career to public service, retiring from the Illinois State Police after decades of faithful work. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Laura Rhoades, and her brother Joseph “Mickey” Carlove.
She is survived by her husband, Timothy Vaughn of Fort Myers; her children, Joseph “Joey” Maurer and his wife Rachel of Springfield, and their children Ella Rose and Jack William; and daughter Amber Mae Abram and her husband Nicholas “Nick” of Cape Coral, and their children Oliver William, Ariel Grace, Orren Miller, and Issac Hayes Abram.
Susan is also survived by her siblings: Pamela Manning (RC), Daniel Carlove, and Kim (Joe) Smith, Timothy Carlove all of Springfield; Carissa (Doug) Reynolds of Florida; Patrick (Kara) Carlove of Texas; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was the cherished wife of the late John “Bill” William Maurer of Springfield, Illinois, with whom she shared many meaningful years.
Outside of her work and service, Susan found joy in life’s simple treasures: time with her family and friends, the companionship of her dogs Lily and Lady, and plenty of laughter. She was a proud member of the Moose Club in Fort Myers, loved playing bingo, and had a true passion for cooking—especially sharing her favorite recipes with loved ones.
A celebration of Susan’s life will be held at a later date to honor her memory.
