Born on March 12, 1936, in Freeport, Illinois, Susan was the daughter of Troy and Ruth Preston. She grew up in the small town of Mount Carroll, Illinois, where she was the valedictorian of her high school class and a dedicated cheerleader. She attended Northwestern University, where she graduated in 1957.
After graduation, Susan moved to New York City, where she met the love of her life, William Faison, while residing at the Barbizon Hotel on the Upper East Side. The couple married in 1959, and together they raised three children—John Butler Faison II, Prudence Faison Farley and Dulcie Faison Wilcox. Living in New Jersey, Connecticut, New York and Florida, Bill and Susan enjoyed 55 years of marriage before Bill's passing in 2015.
Susan played piano, flute and guitar, and had a deep appreciation for the arts. She loved staying active throughout her life, and was an avid golfer, tennis player and curling enthusiast. Her zest for life extended to her love for animals, and she had a special bond with every furry friend she encountered.
Susan leaves behind her children, John Faison and Dulcie Faison Wilcox; her sister, Carol Powell; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a wide circle of close friends. Susan will be remembered for her wit, warmth and vibrant spirit. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
