Bob was born January 31, 1930 to Ann and Byron Wilcox of Providence, RI He graduated from Hope High School there and went on to start his own building and construction company.
Forever staying busy, Bob was civic-minded and an active participant in the communities in which he lived. He held numerous positions therein and earned copious awards. While living in Narragansett, Bob was a member of the Harbor River Management Board, where he and best friend Saul Nulman built and donated a park in honor of Saul's mother and Bob's second wife, Angelina. The memorial park overlooks the ocean in Narragansett.
On April 3, 1995, Bob was elected into the Knights of Rockingham Arch Committee and was recognized as an outstanding Narragansett citizen. He was a lifelong member of the order.
Following the death of his second wife, Bob relocated to Isles of Capri, Florida in 1995. Soon after he met and married Patricia Barr (Trish) in 1996. The couple was very active in their parish, San Marco.
True to form, Bob continued to be very involved in his community in Florida as well. He served as President of the Master Board at La Peninsula. He was a Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus and held many offices therein. Bob's creativity was actualized every Christmas season, when he helped to design and build the Knights' Christmas float. Building with his fellow Knights, they won numerous prizes for their creativity and vision. The Knights of Columbus float crew won first prize for their float this past Christmas.
Bob enjoyed golf and was an avid walker. He loved to walk and have his coffee with his friends at the Capri Fish House and The Tarpon Club Marina.
Above all else, Bob was a true boatsman; from an early age in Providence then to Narragansett, RI, then ultimately to Isles of Capri, Naples, FL, Bob would restore boats that had fallen on disrepair back to their former glory. In his earlier years he was know for designing and building his own boats. After logging in too many nautical miles to count, he had to recently retire his Captains Cap due to failing eyesight. However, his friends at Tarpon Club Marina kept him abreast of updates during their morning coffee. His morning coffee routine and the friends he made along the way became a second family to him.
Bob was predeceased by his daughter, Sheryl Gailmette, his parents, his sister Evelyn, his brothers Byron and Richard, and by his grandson, Kevin Gailmette.
He is survived by his wife Patricia Wilcox, his daughter Kathy Wilcox, his two grandchildren Kenneth Gailmette, Jr. and Kim Johnson. He also leaves behind 7 great-grandchildren, 3 step-children and 5 step-grandchildren.
The family suggests that memorial contributions in his memory be made to San Marco Catholic Faith Appeal, the American Cancer Society or Vitas Healthcare.
