Bob was born in Lawrenceburg, Indiana on January 3, 1937 to Ray and Norma Scholle. Bob was active in church and sports, excelling in track. He was close to his family and devoted to his childhood friends, many of whom he remained in contact with until his passing.
While attending college at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Bob fell in love with his true love, Diane Harritos. On January 27, 1958, when Bob was 21 and Diane was 18, they married in Sarasota, Florida. Upon Bob's graduation, he and Diane packed all of their possessions into the back of their '58 Ford and moved to Michigan, where Bob began his 31-year career as a civil engineer with the Michigan Highway Department (MDOT). Bob and Diane were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Kathy and Kelly.
Bob retired from MDOT in 1989 and continued his career with the Michigan Professional Employees Society (MPES), where he represented and negotiated on behalf of State of Michigan employees. Bob was also very active in real estate and felt one of his biggest accomplishments was convincing Meridian Township to extend the utilities on South Okemos Road from Tamarack Drive to the I-96 corridor. This allowed for the development of the "Scholle Pond" Office Park, as well as many other local businesses.
After retirement, Bob and Diane became "snow birds," spending their winters in Marco Island, Florida. While there, Bob and Diane made many amazing, lifelong friends. Bob loved Marco Island so much that he recently made it his permanent residence. Bob loved to golf, teach line dancing, play cribbage by the pool, and socialize with his many friends. He was on his condo association's Board of Directors and Social Committee, and he recently began teaching English to non-English speaking students. Bob had a love of adventure that included going on cruises, traveling Route 66, and fulfilling his lifelong bucket list item of visiting all of the U.S. National Parks.
Family was very important to Bob, and he never missed an opportunity to spend time with and support his daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He attended their many activities, even if it meant sitting in the rain to watch sports or through hours of dance recitals. Bob's love of family was also evidenced by the fact that he never missed a Harritos Family Reunion over the past 40 years. Bob is survived by his daughter, Kelly (Kevin) Ramirez; grandchildren, Stephanie (Mike) Service, Kevin Bryan, Kori Ramirez, and Kasey Ramirez; great-grandchildren, Lawson Service and Sawyer Service; brother-in-law, George (Cathy) Harritos; son-in-law, Dave Bryan; and many nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Diane Scholle; daughter, Kathy Bryan; parents, Ray and Norma Scholle; brother-in-law, Pete (Carla) Harritos; sister-in-law, Pat (Paul) Rinehart; and nephews, Chris Harritos and Carl Harritos. We are comforted that Bob was not afraid of death, because he strongly believed he would see his loved ones again in Heaven.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 27, at East Lawn Memory Gardens, 2400 Bennett Road, Okemos, Michigan (please dress for the weather).
