Richard Alan Greene, affectionately known to family and friends as "Papa South," passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, integrity, creativity, and unwavering devotion to his family.
Rick is survived by his beloved wife, Debbie Greene, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and cherished memories. He was a proud and devoted father to Aaron Greene, and a loving grandfather to Mason and Parker Greene; Lindsay Wojtila and her husband Tommy, and their children Meredith, Sam and Ben; Mackenzie Hartwell and her husband Brian, and their daughter Olive; and Max Fiordalisi and his wife Jackie, and their children Liam and Sophie. His family was the center of his world, and nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with them and celebrating their accomplishments. He is also survived by many cherished family members and friends.
Rick was a third-generation leader in the family insurance agency, dedicating more than 50 years of service through Goldsmith Greene Insurance Agency and, later, his work in Sarasota. He also enjoyed helping clients with their real estate needs. He approached his work with honesty, compassion, and a sincere commitment to serving others. To Rick, customers were never simply policyholders; they were friends, neighbors, and members of the community whose well-being he treated as if it were his own. His reputation for trustworthiness and genuine care left a lasting impression on countless individuals and families throughout his career.
Outside of work, Rick embraced life with enthusiasm and creativity. He was an avid lover of classic rock, especially Queen, Led Zeppelin, and The Beatles. He also had a remarkable artistic spirit and found joy in writing and creating art, using his talents to express his unique perspective on the world. He was also a proud Ohio State alumnus and devoted Buckeyes football fan.
Whether through his words, artwork, or conversations, Rick had a special gift for connecting with people and making them feel valued.
More than any accomplishment or title, Rick will be remembered as a genuinely good person. His kindness, generosity, sense of humor, and compassionate heart touched everyone fortunate enough to know him. He had a way of making people feel welcome, supported, and loved, and his influence will continue to live on through the many lives he impacted.
Though his passing leaves a tremendous void, his family takes comfort in the memories they shared, the enduring example he set, and the peace of knowing he is no longer in pain.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Humane Society of Sarasota County or to the National Kidney Foundation of Florida, causes that were meaningful to Rick and his family.
Rick's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him. He was deeply treasured, and he will be profoundly missed.
"Those we love don't go away; they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near. Rick is still loved, still missed, and forever dear to us."
