Philip Henry Dorland Fort Myers Florida— Philip Henry Dorland, formerly of McBain and Lansing, passed Away Sunday,September 12, 2016. He was 67. “Phil” was born in Cadillac, MI to Clare M. and Eleanore Hattie (Koopman) Dorland. Phil is survived by his children: Andrew P. Dorland of El Cerrito, CA and Nicholas A. Dorland of Grand Ledge, MI. and his children: Isaac, Lorelai and Reese,; ex-wife Lisa A. Bartlett; friend and companion since 1983, Sammie D. Mayes; sister Frances (Timothy John) Vandenboss; nephew Timothy James (Ashley) Vandenbos; grand nephews Owen and Jonathon Vandenbos and nephew Mathew Clare (Danae) Vandenbos; grand nephew Jackson H. Per his wishes he will be cremated. A graveside service in remembrance of “Phil” will take place at the Clam Union “Falmouth” Cemetery on Oct 8. Phil received his Bachelor of Sciences Degree majoring in the Department of Parks and Recreation Resources at Michigan State University. He was hired as the first Parks and Recreation Director of Delta Township, Eaton County. In 1977 Phil was hired as Superintendent of Parks for the City of Lansing to manage Lansing’s parks, golf courses and Potter Park Zoo. He advanced to Deputy Director of Parks and Recreation in 1979 and retired from that management position in 2002 with duties associated with departmental budget development and oversight of the department landscape staff involved in master planning and capital improvements. Upon retiring to Fort Myers, Florida Phil volunteered for several organizations and worked on his family genealogy to trace family lines of Dorland, Cohoon, Richardson, Hornick, Vanhorn, Badder, Koopman, Uridge, and Tremain to name a few.
