Martin Edmund "Mickey" Borgersen died on January 20, 2018, in Englewood, FL, at the age of 86. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carol, his son, Jan, his daughter-in-law Sinéad, his two grandsons Fionn and Faelan, his cousin Barbara, and his extended Borgersen family.
Mickey was born on August 7, 1931, in the Bronx, New York, where he met his love. Carol and Mickey were married in 1953. Over the course of seven decades together, they lived in the Bronx, Purdys, NY, Charlotte, NC, and Rotonda West, FL.
Mickey served in the US Navy during the Korean War, on the U.S.S. Deuel, A.P.A. 160, from 1951-1953. His post-Navy career included almost 30 years at IBM in facilities maintenance at Yorktown Heights, NY, and Charlotte, NC. Carol and Mickey retired to Rotonda West, FL, in 1996.
As a lifelong Mason, Mickey earned his 32nd degree through the Scottish Rite, and became an active Shriner with both Oasis Shrine in Charlotte, NC, and Sahib Shrine in Sarasota, FL.
Mickey passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon at the Englewood Hospice House, while holding Carol's hand.
