Karen Marlene Fairfield of Cape Coral, Florida died April 16, 2017 at the age of 78 after a year-long battle with lung cancer. She was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey on October 26, 1938 to Matthew Pfeiffer and Kathryn (Sowick) Pfeiffer. Karen is survived by her brother Matthew Pfeiffer; her son John Fairfield, III; her daughter Jennifer (Jack) Fairfield-Williams; and her granddaughter Kathryn. Karen graduated from New Brunswick Senior High School in 1956 and went on to receive a degree in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina Greensboro. Karen worked as a medical lab technician at Harvard University and married John Fairfield, Jr in 1965. Karen and John traveled the Eastern U.S. opening banjo bars (Your Father’s Mustache) for several years before settling in Maine where Karen had two children and taught school and John worked as a lobsterman. Karen moved to Florida in 1973 after the passing of her husband. Karen was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, computer games, TV crime dramas, a good cheeseburger, bowling, cooking, and her cats. A Celebration of Life will be held in the near future for friends and family, the family has requested donations to Hope Hospice in Karen’s memory.
