Jean Marie Derby

Jean Marie Derby of Fort Myers, FL passed away peacefully on Monday, April 10th, 2023 at the age of 81. Jean was born on October 29th, 1941 and grew up in Dorchester, Massachusetts with her loving parents, Anthony and Sally Fernandes and five siblings: John Carter, North Fort Myers, FL, Patricia Correnti, Estero, FL, Helen Gray, Cape Coral, FL, Hila Merdkhanian, Watertown, MA, and Nancy Fernandes, Boston, MA.

Semi-retired and calling Fort Myers, Florida her home since early 2000, Jean loved spending time with her family, especially those Sunday dinners and holidays with those that lived in SW Florida.

Jean was a proud mother to three children: Michael Carter, Diane Derby-McDonnell, and Carol Derby, and is also a grandmother to Elizabeth Derby-Hanson, Charlie Carter, Casey Carter, and great grandmother to Elizabeth’s two boys Declan and Kallen.

Her passions later in life was working as a seamstress, she especially loved modifying or constructing upholstery and draperies, and nothing seemed to be to complex or difficult. Her neighbors were always happy to chat with her, as she could talk for hours about any topic without missing a beat. Jean had a soft spot for her two cats, Domino and Pepper, and she will be deeply missed by many.
