Jane Marie Hoffman Ewing, 98, of North Fort Myers, FL, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children, on February 14, 2025. She was born on January 28, 1927, to Sara Suiter Hoffman and Nelson Miles Hoffman, Sr., in Wildwood, New Jersey.
Jane graduated from Asbury College in Wilmore, KY, and dedicated her life to serving others. She was an elementary school teacher in southern New Jersey and was the consummate spouse of a minister, exemplifying grace, love, and hospitality. Until her husband’s retirement she lived her entire life in parsonages, as both her father and her husband were Methodist ministers. After her husband John Ewing retired, they moved to Florida, first to Titusville and then to Kissimmee. Following John's death, after 66 years of marriage, Jane moved to North Fort Myers to live with her daughter Nancy.
Jane was a true saint, a title bestowed upon her by everyone who knew her. Her deep Christian faith guided her life; she "prayed without ceasing." A constant source of encouragement, Jane uplifted others with her kind words, thoughtful cards, and heartfelt letters. For decades, Jane faithfully sent birthday and anniversary cards to all her family members and close friends, including nieces and nephews, a testament to her love and thoughtfulness. Each year she sent almost 100 cards, each with a very personal message. Jane will be remembered for her unwavering belief in the goodness of others.
She will be deeply missed by her daughter, Nancy Ewing; son, Jack Ewing (Cynthia); granddaughters Sara Ewing-Merrill (Allen) and Elizabeth Ewing-Lee (Greg); and great-grandchildren Rachel Ewing-Merrill, Lydia Ewing-Lee, Kathryn Ewing-Merrill, Caleb Ewing-Lee, Micah Ewing-Lee, and Gloria Mahame.
Jane was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Ewing; her brother, Nelson M. Hoffman, Jr.; and her parents. Memorial services will be held both in Cape Coral, Florida and Waynesville, North Carolina with final dates and details to be determined. Gifts in memory of her can be made to Grace Church, Cape Coral, FL, to Hope Hospice, Fort Myers, FL, and to Lake Junaluska Assembly, Lake Junaluska, NC.
