Jim was born in St. Charles, IL on April 11, 1936 but always considered himself to be a Californian, living in both the San Francisco Bay Area and southern California for many years. Next stop was New Hampshire and then finally to Naples, FL. He sure loved Florida. He always said he would not have to wear long pants again. And he pretty much did not!
The bulk of his career was spent at Levi Strauss & Co. in San Francisco and then other part-time jobs upon retirement in Naples.
To all who knew Jim – family and friends – he was the best guy in the world. Patient, gentle and kind but feisty and fun as well. To his wife, Nancy, he was the love of her life. “You’re perfect,” he would tell Nancy and when she disagreed, he just re-phrased it, “Well, you’re perfect for me!” And Nancy would echo it right back to Jim.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Nancy K. McDermott (Biergiel); his daughter, Dana McDermott and husband, Jon Leupp; son, Andrew McDermott and wife, Tina; sister, Sally Bailey and husband, Robert as well as extended family in New Hampshire and Maine.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. 2 Timothy 4:7
Please remember Jim with kindness and love.
