Jim was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 12, 1943 and was the second child of Marcella and James Long. He earned both his bachelor's degree and MBA from Central Michigan University in 1968 and 1970 respectively, and, during his college years, enjoyed playing hockey and was an active member of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. He is survived by many fraternity brothers with whom he enjoyed friendships over the decades.
While he enjoyed a long, successful career, Jim's passion in life was sports. He played for the Star Cutters hockey team in Detroit during his early years and remained an avid sports fan for his entire life.
After his retirement in 2013, Jim left the Detroit area and moved to his home in Fort Myers Beach, Florida. He lived an extremely active, healthy and robust life. Alongside friends, he battled and survived multiple hurricanes.
Jim leaves behind his wife of 45 years, Nancy, his son Jeff and his daughter Alexis (with her partner Ted Christenson) and a large group of lifelong friends. Above all, he supported his friends, family and children, doing everything possible to help them succeed in life.
So Long, Dad, So Long, Jim. We love you.
