

Jacobus Johannes (Jack) Meerman, 95, beloved husband, father, opa, and friend, of The Oaks in Osprey, Florida, passed away June 8, 2025. He was born in Hoek van Holland, the Netherlands, on May 3, 1930.
Jack received an accounting degree in Holland and served in the Royal Dutch Navy. He worked for Holland America Line and immigrated to the United States in December of 1955. He had a career in the travel industry also with National Airlines and Pan American World Airways before getting married to the former Gloria Paulo in October 1964 and starting his own travel agency, Pan Atlas Travel Service which expanded to six agencies.
Jack held multiple leadership roles in the travel industry besides Pan Atlas, such as president of G.I.A.N.T.S (Greater Independent Association of National Travel Services). He was also active in several civic organizations such as Rotary International and served as President of the Youngstown Chamber of Commerce. In retirement he had a passion for golf and travel, hosting 7 world cruises for AAA with his wife, Gloria. He enjoyed attending Rotary meetings around the world.
Jack was survived by his wife, his 2 sons, Michael and William, his daughter, Jacquelyn, his grandchildren, Lena, Meridith, Michelle and Haden, and his great grandchildren, Faith and Michael.
A Celebration of Life for Jack is planned for July 26 in the Tavern at the Oaks Country Club from 1-3 pm.
