Gerald Allen Garrett

Gerald ‘Jerry’ Garrett, 76, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2017 at Bay Front Hospital in Punta Gorda, Florida surrounded by his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years and caregiver, Karen Garrett. His son Jeffrey Garrett of New Brunsfield, Texas; his daughter Christine Perry of Naples, FL; brother, Ron Garrett of Harriman, TN and grandchildren Austin Garrett, David Perry, Savannah Perry, and Christopher Perry. Jerry was born April 19, 1941 to Gill and Thelma (Jacks) Garrett of Morgan County, Tennessee. Jerry lived most of his life in Lima, Ohio and served in the Naval Reserve and Army from 1962-1965. Jerry owned Garrett Motor Sales in Lima, OH and retired from Scott Lad. In 2005 he moved to Port Charlotte, FL to be closer to his daughter and grandchildren. Jerry had a huge pride in moving to the sunshine state. Jerry always had the best stories of his time serving in the military and all around knew how to make everyone laugh with his quiet, soft voice. Jerry treasured his grandchildren and taught them valuable life lessons, the children learned through his example about the importance of being a kind and honorable person . Jerry's service will be on October 30th at the Sarasota National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
