George Wilford Woodsum

George W. Bill Woodsum of Ft. Myers, FL died peacefully on October 16, 2016 at the age of 91 years, surrounded by his loving wife Betty of 70 years and his three children. George, known by his friends as “Bill,” was born July 31, 1925, in Braintree, MA. Bill was a graduate of Northeastern University and Worcester Poly Technic Institute as a trained mechanical engineer. He then served as an officer in the US Navy during the Korean War. He was a career executive with IBM Corporation from which he retired at the age of 57, allowing him to pursue the many activities and hobbies he enjoyed. Music was his passion (he said that it kept him alive!), playing the cornet in the Lee County Community Band, golf, tennis, sailing, cruising, croquet, visiting family across the US, family reunions, skiing, and telling humorous stories. The richness of Bill was as the family man. He and Betty, his childhood sweetheart who would proudly spend 70 years by his side as his wife, would regularly host grand family reunions in big Victorian houses on Narragansett or on cruise ships, infused with Bill’s generosity of spirit. Cherished father of: Glenn (DJ Wright) Woodsum, Lorna (Dan) Riley and Lorraine (Ed) Houseman; Grandfather of: Meagan Riley Grant, Gillian Riley Froelicher, Ben Woodsum, Cayce Woodsum Carter, Dan Houseman and Kate Houseman; Great Grandfather of: Julian Woodsum, Benjamin Grant, Avery Grant, Nico Froelicher, Keira Elizabeth Houseman and Jaxon William Carter. Family and friends are invited to share remembrances with the family on Saturday, October 22, 2016 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Seven Lakes Golf and Tennis Community, 1965 Seven Lakes Blvd, memorial service in the auditorium, main entrance off US 41 gate, Ft.
