It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Evan John Meyers, who died on January 28th, 2025 at his Florida home with his beloved wife, Mary Ellen, by his side. Born and raised in Campbellford, Ontario, Evan's life was rich with family and friends, marked by professional success and filled with laughter.
Evan earned his Bachelor of Commerce from Queen’s University, graduating with the class of 1968. He began his career at Wood Gundy as an analyst before returning to his roots in the 1970s to join the family business, Meyers Transport. Under Evan’s leadership, the company grew from humble beginnings to a thriving enterprise with over 500 employees, a reflection of his dedication, vision, and resilience.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Evan was a builder of community, a man who made everyone feel welcome and heard. He was especially proud of the community he built in Cape Coral, the Cape Coral Canadian Club, and the community he helped grow on Belmont Lake, the Belmont Lake Cottage Association.
Evan was a true storyteller with an endlessly curious mind. He had a twinkle in his eye that could brighten any room. He stood firmly for what he believed in, and his strength, integrity, and easy laughter left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Evan’s greatest pride, however, was his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ellen Meyers, and his children: Dustin Meyers and grandson Silas; Jacquie Meyers and her husband Justin Bailie and granddaughter Kayla Meyers-Bailie. He was also a proud stepfather to David Heeley (Lucky), Melissa Morris (Dave), and Adam Heeley, and a cherished step-grandfather to Noah and Callie Morris and Matthew, Jessica and Maya Heeley.
Breaking from tradition, Evan chose to host his own celebration of life in June 2024, where family and friends shared heartfelt tributes and memories with him. As per the family’s wishes, there will be no public service or further celebration of life. A private family interment is planned for the spring.
Evan leaves behind a remarkable legacy of resilience, leadership, and warmth. His influence and lighthearted presence will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
