Born in Harrington Delaware to loving and supportive parents, Buelah Hobbs Messick and William Earl Messick. Sister to Selva Jean Livingston. Wife to Patrick Alan Madonna. Mother to Michael Alan Madonna and William Mark Madonna.
Introduced to nursing as a teenager, she found a quality nursing education that only Mercy Hospital in Baltimore Maryland could provide. The comradeship of her classmates is in evidence to this day. She was always proud to be a “Mercy Graduate”; striving always to maintain the high standards expected by the Sisters.
Her professional career was diverse. She was a OR and Staff Nurse; 22.5 years a Pediatric Nurse; and 20 years devoted to the mentally challenged and Alzheimer/Dementia related disorders.
A devout Catholic, “Mae” was very active in her church alongside her husband Patrick. She was an important part of the Bereavement Ministry at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Palmetto Florida. “Mae” carried the tenets of her church with her daily. She lived her spiritual beliefs. She was kind, compassionate and empathetic to all. The Goodness of her heart was visible to all who met her.
“Mae” adored her friends, both old and new. She always looked forward to her Mercy Hospital Reunions. She loved her Golf League, especially her outings with “her girls”.Her friendships extended far and wide; from Delaware to her home in Florida. Her friendships at Holy Cross Church were dear to her heart.
She adored the beauty and tranquility of the beach. She was especially fond of Anna Maria Island with the beautiful shells and the amazing sunsets. “Mae” found beauty in many things. She was a member of the Manatee County Orchid Society. She enjoyed raising orchids admiring their strength , individuality and beauty. Nurturing many orchids , she was recognized at the Societies Competitions .
Her Family likens her to the plants she raised , delicate yet strong, beautiful in so many ways.
Ella “Mae” was a rock, firm in her beliefs and convictions. Her Journey thru life touched the lives of many. She brought peace and comfort to those in her care. She was loved by all who knew her.
On Sunday 8 September 2024 Ella “Mae” Madonna found eternal peace and comfort in the Hands of God.
Ella Mae Madonna was preceded in death by her parents Beulah and Earl Messick ; and her sister and brother in law Jean and Conrad Livingston . All of Milford Delaware.
She is survived by her loving husband Patrick Madonna of Palmetto Florida : her son Michael Madonna of Gainesville Florida ; her son Mark Madonna of Frisco North Carolina ; her niece Luanne Holland of Ellendale Delaware ; her niece Barbie McDaniel of Lewes Delaware and A. Beethoven of Palmetto Florida.
A Celebration of her Life will be held at a future date at her Home Parish of Holy Cross Church of Palmetto Florida .
