Elizabeth Mary Ryan

Elizabeth (“Betty”) Mary Ryan, 83, of Englewood, Florida, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 26, 2023. Betty was born on June 22, 1939 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Luke McCann and Elizabeth Ronan McCann.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas W. Ryan and her younger brothers Thomas McCann, Robert McCann, Denis (Mac) McCann and Raymond McCann.

Betty is survived and will be missed by her daughter, Elizabeth (“Beth”) M. Ryan and Yolanda deJesus of Englewood, Florida, her son, Thomas (“Tommy”) W. Ryan and Monique Ryan of Middletown, NJ and her grandchildren, Taylor N. Ryan of Truckee, CA, Brielle E. Ryan of Hoboken, NJ, Thomas W. Ryan of Middletown, NJ and her youngest brother, Luke McCann, of San Rafael, CA, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Betty grew up in Brooklyn, NY and graduated from Bishop McDonnell Memorial High School where, for many years, she organized and participated in their annual school reunions. She also worked at the Brooklyn Public Library which is where she met her husband, Tommy. Betty was employed at H & R Block for over 30 years as a tax preparer and Enrolled Agent for the IRS.

Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend to many. Her favorite things to do included spending time with family, painting, crocheting, taking pictures, reading, playing card games and mahjong. She was a world traveler. Some of her favorite places visited included Ireland, Scotland, England, Greece, Italy, Turkey, Russia, Poland and Mexico. For many years, she was active at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Hernando County and other community groups.

A celebration of life is being planned for family and friends in the coming months in New York.

What we will always remember most is Betty’s infectious smile, twinkling green eyes, her generosity and kindness to others.
